Bridgend Ravens Squad

Team to face RGC at the Brewery!

Bridgend Ravens return to the Timbuild Brewery Field this Saturday for a home Indigo Premiership tie against RGC (2:30pm).

The sides last met in December 2019 and the North Walians compounded more misery on the Ravens by comfortably winning 24pts to 5; a seventh consecutive defeat for Bridgend at that time. In fact, Bridgend’s record against RGC shows just one victory since they first faced off in September 2016. That was a memorable afternoon at the Timbuild Brewery Field, with the Ravens securing a 43pts to 39 win in the April sunshine.

Alun Wyn Davies’ side come into the game still looking for their first Indigo Premiership win of the season, but will be buoyed by a second half comeback at Carmarthen Park on Saturday that saw them pick up a losing bonus point in defeat. Two late tries from Lee Murphy and a penalty try put Bridgend in with a chance of victory, but with the clock in the red, it wasn’t to be, finishing 22pts to 17 to the hosts.

RGC will be looking to back up their last match, a comfortable victory over Ebbw Vale at Stadiwm Zipworld by 27pts to 11. That was the latest of three straight home wins for Ceri Jones’ men. They also beat Swansea (29pts to 14) and Merthyr (42pts to 19) in a fine run of home form. They’ll be looking to pick up a win on the road to keep the pressure on Newport and Cardiff at the top of the Indigo Premiership table.

After taking the opportunity to experiment with his side last weekend at Carmarthen, Alun Wyn Davies gives another opportunity to some of those who made an impression last time out. Edd Howley moves to fullback and is joined in the back three by Cameron Ellis and Tyler Williams. The rest of the backline stays the same as last Saturday; Paul Short and the Supporters’ Man of the Match Dylan Davies are the half backs and Joseph Gatt and Tom Morgan are paired in midfield.

Amongst the forwards, Ospreys’ Harri Deaves gets a start in the back row alongside Zac O’Driscoll and Dafi Davies. After impressing from the bench last weekend, Nantyffyllon’s Bowen Davies gets a start with Hemi Barnes in the second row. Fresh from scoring for Maesteg Quins against Neath last weekend, Rhydian Jenkins starts at hooker in a front row with Rhodri Apsee and Ben Warren.
