Team to face Pontypridd

Bridgend Ravens will be looking to back up last weekend’s win over RGC at the Timbuild Brewery Field, when Pontypridd visit in front of the S4C Cameras on Thursday evening (7:30pm).

It’s set to be an emotional evening at the Timbuild Brewery Field as the Ravens pay tribute to lifelong Bridgend Ravens supporter, Simon Green who passed away earlier this week. There will be a moment of silence prior to the match in Simon’s memory as the club reflects on the incredible contribution he made to rugby in Bridgend during his lifetime.

The Ravens will be buoyed by Saturday’s success over the Gogs and will be looking to climb off the foot of the table with a win against Justin Burnell’s side. Saturday’s win followed a well earned bonus point, albeit in defeat at Carmarthen the previous week. With just six games left this season, the Ravens will be looking to continue this improved form and claw themselves up the league standings.

Pontypridd played their postponed Indigo Cup Quarter Final last Saturday, losing 12pts to 3 at Church Bank in a wind hampered tie. They head back into league action hoping for more of the same after a 19pts to 17 win against Merthyr at Sardis Road. They have won three of their five league matches so far and currently sit in eighth place in the standings.

This is set to be the first time that the sides have met since the 2019/20 season, when Pontypridd won both matches; scoring late to take victory in each game. At the Brewery, it finished 21pts to 23 after a late Dale Stuckey try was expertly converted by Diggy Bird and at Sardis, Ponty won 18-17 with a winning score in the 77th minute. Games between the sides are often tight with both sides playing an expansive game, and Thursday’s game promises more of the same.

With a short turnaround since Saturday’s victory over RGC, Alun Wyn Davies makes three changes to his starting lineup. There’s just one change to the backline; Stuart Floyd Ellis comes in for Tyler Williams on the wing. Amongst the forwards, Cai Lewis takes the tighthead spot and Aled Evans and Rob Dudley Jones replace Harri Deaves and Zac O’Driscoll in the back row.

Amongst Bridgend’s replacements, there could be a debut for tighthead Cori Phillips who appears on permit from Ystalyfera.
