28 Jan Team to face Llanelli (a)
Bridgend Ravens head back into league action this weekend when they make the journey to Parc y Scarlets to face winless Llanelli (2:30pm).
The Ravens know they will need to be much better than last weekend when a poor first half performance saw them surrender an early 3-0 lead to trail 35pts to 3 at the interval. Things improved slightly in the second period, but it was job done for Newport as they cemented victory with two further scores to seal a 45pts to 17 success.
Llanelli fInished bottom of the West conference without winning a game, have also lost their opening two league matches to Carmarthen Quins (13-30) and RGC (8-41). Paul Fisher’s side have improved as the season has progressed and taken the opportunity to give a number of younger players game time, along with some stars from the Scarlets Academy and senior squad but they’ll be keen to start registering some wins now that the league season has started.
The sides met twice in the Western conference, and it was the Ravens that were successful on both occasions. The first matchup was at Parc y Scarlets, when tries from Lee Murphy and debutant Tom Florence gave Bridgend a 21pts to 18 win. The game at the Timbuild Brewery Field was arguably Bridgend’s best performance of the season, when a devastating second half performance saw them secure a seven try win by 43pts to 16, hooker Gareth Harvey scoring a hattrick. Bridgend will want to show more of that form this Saturday if they are to pick up their first win of the league campaign.
