Bridgend Ravens

Team to face Newport (A)

Bridgend Ravens head to Rodney Parade to face Newport in a re-arranged Indigo Premiership clash on Saturday afternoon (2:30pm).
Bridgend head into the game on the back of another last kick defeat, this time to Pontypridd at the Morganstone Brewery Field. There were plenty of positive signs for the Ravens, who had a week of recovery prior to a tough week on the training paddock ahead of this weekend’s game. Bridgend’s league form prior to this had been mixed; a narrow opening day defeat to Aberavon by 26pts to 27 was followed by a home win against Merthyr by 17pts to 12. Llandovery were Bridgend’s next opponent and they blitzed Bridgend with a 20 minute onslaught at the start of the second period to win 40pts to 13. Then came the agonising defeat to Pontypridd. Bridgend know they’ll need to be at their best when they face Ty Morris’ side this weekend.
Newport’s last home game saw them taste defeat in a 17pts to 29 reverse at home to Indigo Premiership champions Merthyr. Last weekend, they earned a sensational victory at Llandovery by 9pts to 3 in terrible conditions at Church Bank. They have two wins to their name so far, with the other coming against Ebbw Vale on opening weekend.
With injuries decimating Bridgend, chances have been given to a number of youngsters and new talents. There’s a new face involved amongst the replacements, with Bridgend adding to the squad with the signing of experienced back row forward Ryan Hall, formerly of Aberavon and Tata Steel. Another back row man, Joseph Davies will also be hoping to make his competitive debut for the club after impressing in pre-season before suffering an injury setback – he takes his place amongst Bridgend’s replacements.
Owen Howe retains his place at full back, in a back three with Dewi Cross and Andrew Evans. Stuart Floyd Ellis and Nathan Edwards continue their partnership in midfield with Jamie Murphy and Chris Williams retained at half back.
It’s a welcome return to action for Tom Morgan in the back row with Dafi Davies and Jack Pope. James Little comes into the second row to pair up with Ben Jones. Owen Jordan, Iestyn Merriman and the returning Cai Lewis are given the nod in the front row.
