Ravens bolster squad ahead of new campaign

With the new season on the horizon, Bridgend Ravens have bolstered their squad with a number of important additions.

Firstly, after impressing the coaches with his performances for Bridgend Athletic, scrum half Dan James joins up with Bridgend. The elusive scrum half showed up well in tough conditions in Bridgend’s first pre-season game at Glamorgan on Saturday and will compete for the scrum half berth with Connor Tantum, Chris Williams and Harri Morgan.

Hooker Rob Jones joins up with Bridgend after eighteen months at Cross Keys. The 28 year old played for Treorchy for eight seasons, winning two Mid District Cups and Division 1 East Central. During his time with the Zebras, Jones turned out a number of times for Pontypridd before making the switch to Cross Keys in 2016.

Adding to the exciting options in the back line is Geraint Roberts. Geraint has played most of his rugby for Ogmore Vale alongside his career as a fireman. His representative honours include playing for the Welsh Fire Service and British Fire Service. Geraint returned to rugby on a full time basis last year, impressing with Maesteg before being invited to Bridgend’s pre season training, from where he’s made the move a permanent one.

It was a successful year for another Ravens recruit Sam Berbillion, who helped steer Ystrad Rhondda to the Championship last season. The youngster’s rugby background kicked off at Penygraig, representing the Mid District at youth level. Sam impressed enough to earn a move to Ystrad Rhondda where he occupied the outside centre position during their successful run to earning promotion from Division 1.
