‘Tandy is the right man to take Ospreys forward.’

There may be people who will have their reservations about 32-year-old Steve Tandy being appointed as Ospreys Head Coach, citing his lack of experience and relative youth, but Bridgend Ravens Chairman Derrick King isn’t among them. He has seen quality coaches come at go at the Brewery Field over the past two decades, Dennis John, Lynn Howells, Allan Lewis and Richard Webster among them, but he rates Tandy as being up there with best of them.

“He is a superb young coach,” said King. ”I can’t speak highly enough of what he has done for Bridgend. He came in when we were at rock-bottom and he has picked us up and done a huge amount to restore our credibility. He’s been outstanding. Without doubt he’s one of the finest blokes and coaches in rugby. The fans love him at Bridgend. He would always front up and talk things through with them, never once shying away. He saw them as a hugely important part of the club and wanted to involve them as much as he could. We’ve had some good coaches here. Allan Lewis, Dennis John, Lynn Howells and Richard Webster were all excellent for the club, but Steve Tandy is up there with them.

Rose appointed Ravens Head Coach

Following the departure of Steve Tandy to the Ospreys, Bridgend Ravens are delighted to announce the appointment of Ben Rose as interim Head Coach until the end of the season.

As a player, Rose was part of the successful Bridgend side that won Division 1 West and secured a return to the Premiership. He has also appeared numerous times this year, as the Ravens made a sensational start to their life in the top division.

Rose will continue with Tandys backroom staff, where he will be assisted by Backs Coach Craig Warlow and Forwards Coach, Richard Lancaster.

Tandy takes charge of Ospreys

New Ospreys' Head Coach Steve Tandy

Ospreys Rugby can confirm that Steve Tandy has been appointed to the post of Head Coach following the departure of Sean Holley and will take charge of team affairs at the region ahead of Friday’s RaboDirect PRO12 fixture against Aironi at the Liberty Stadium.

32-year old Tandy, from Tonmawr, will be assisted by current Forwards Coach Jonathan Humphreys, with the full make-up of his coaching team to be confirmed.

An Ospreys ‘original’, Tandy has been a part of the Ospreys set-up since the inception of regional rugby, his debut coming in September 2003 against Leinster at Donnybrook. In total, he played 102 times for the Ospreys, scoring 10 tries, with his final appearance coming against Edinburgh in March 2010.
