Bridgend Ravens visit Sardis Road on Saturday in search of the three points which will secure their Principality Premiership place for next season (2:30pm).
Bridgend have picked up sixteen points from their last four games which has kept their destiny in their own hands. Wins against RGC, Bargoed and Cross Keys were followed by an 88th minute defeat at the Talbot Athletic Ground last time out by 27pts to 20.
Pontypridd have an outside change of dethroning their valley rivals Merthyr, who look set to win their third consecutive Principality Premiership title. They warmed up for Saturday with a 24pts to 5 win at Pandy Park against already relegated Cross Keys. This followed a 28-55 win away at Bargoed, putting them on 103pts in 3rd place. They have one game left following Saturday's battle with Bridgend, a home tie with Merthyr.
Last season's game saw last minute, double bonus point heartache for Bridgend in a 38pts to 37 Sardis Road defeat. The reverse fixture earlier this season was won in remarkable fashion by Pontypridd, 44pts to 35. Bridgend scored five tries that afternoon and at one stage led 21pts to 3. It was a fierce second half performance from Pontypridd as tries from Jamie Hill (2), Corey Howells (2) and Ben Jones steered them home. Bridgend will have to be at their best if they're to keep their place amongst the top table of Welsh semi professional rugby.
Bridgend trained last night at the Morganstone Brewery Field and Saturday's team will be selected from the following players:
Owen Howe, Will Holley, Mike Powell, Nathan Edwards (capt), Jamie Murphy, Stuart Floyd Ellis, Morgan Jones, Dewi Cross, Josh Thomas, Chris Williams & Connor Tantum
Jordan Collier, Adam O'Driscoll, Matthew John, Dafi Davies, Owain Lloyd, Ben Jones, James Little, Lloyd Ashley, Gheorghe Gajion, Gareth Harvey, Owen Jordan, Owen Thomas, Ollie Evans, Cai Lewis & Garyn Daniel.
