Team to face RGC (H)

By Aled Thomas | 19/04/2019

Bridgend Ravens welcome North Walian side RGC to the Morganstone Brewery Field on Saturday for their penultimate home game of the Principality Premiership season.

The Ravens are currently eight points behind Llanelli who are in eleventh place, with three games in hand on the Scarlets who beat them 25pts to 20 last weekend. Bedwas are the other side just above Bridgend, leading them by 7 points having played two games more than the Brewery Field side. Bridgend have five league games remaining and despite two disappointing defeats, still have their destiny firmly in their own hands.

RGC come to the Brewery on the back of a 13pts to 15 home defeat to Aberavon and 25pts to 20 defeat to Llanelli. Prior to this, there were two victories over already relegated Neath (10pts to 24) and Bedwas (17pts to 45). They've secured their place in next season's twelve team Premiership and currently sit in tenth place on 71 league points.

Earlier this season, RGC took the spoils by 38pts to 15. They've never lost to Bridgend and won by 27pts to 10 on their last visit to the Morganstone Brewery Field in December 2017. Cai Evans scored all of Bridgend's points that day, including a try in the second minute following a charge down by Owain Lloyd. Bridgend are under no illusions that they'll quickly need to start registering victories in order to keep their place amongst Wales' elite.

Owen Howe continues at full back in a back three with Mike Powell and try scorer last weekend Dewi Cross. Stuart Floyd Ellis is into the side to partner Nathan Edwards in midfield. Ospreys Youngster Josh Thomas makes his Bridgend Ravens debut at outside half, fresh from impressing in Wales u19s defeat to England at the same ground a fortnight ago, with Chris Williams at 9.

Ollie Evans, Man of the Match in defeat to Llanelli, keeps his place in a front row with Gareth Harvey, making his 50th Bridgend Ravens appearance, and Moldovan powerhouse Gheorghe Gajion. James Little and Ben Jones' flourishing partnership is extended in the second row. Tom Morgan, Adam O'Driscoll and Dafi Davies are the back row.
