Team to face Ebbw Vale (H)

By Aled Thomas | 18/01/2019

Bridgend Ravens return to the Morganstone Brewery Field for the first time in 2019 when Ebbw Vale are the visitors on Saturday (2:30pm).

The Ravens' last two outings have come away from home and resulted in defeats; firstly at RGC (38pts to 15) before last week's reverse at Swansea (22pts to 12). This leaves Bridgend hovering above the automatic relegation places, so Saturday's game is a well timed one allowing them a return to home comforts. Bridgend's last two home games have seen victories over Aberavon (16pts to 13) and Neath (78pts to 5) and the squad know they'll need to match those performance levels if they're to get anything from the high-flying Steelmen.
Ebbw Vale come to the Brewery in outstanding form; winning seven of their last eight games in all competitions. The one setback was a 14pts all draw with Aberavon. They sit in fourth place currently and took the spoils when the sides met earlier this campaign. Two early Ronny Kynes tries looked to put the game to bed but Bridgend's Will Holley kept the visitors in touch with the boot. A Mikey Kennedy try gave Bridgend the lead but a late Rhys Jones penalty stole victory for the Steelmen with the game finishing 17pts to 16.
Matt Silva makes a number of changes to the side that were defeated at St Helen's. Cai Evans continued at fullback, and he's joined in the back three with Morgan Jones and Ashley Evans. Stuart Floyd Ellis comes into the centre alongside Nathan Edwards. Jamie Murphy is paired with Connor Tantum at half back.
There's a reshuffle in the back row with Dafi Davies coming in at 8, in a back row alongside Aled Evans and Jordan Collier. Ben Jones and Jack Pope are selected in the boilerhouse; Rhodri Apsee, Gareth Harvey and Neil Elworthy the front row.
Amongst Bridgend's replacements is Cai Lewis who will be hoping to make his 150th appearance for the club.
