Swansea 22-12 Bridgend

Bridgend Ravens suffered a narrow defeat to Ospreylian rivals Swansea on Saturday afternoon.

The Ravens will have been disappointed not to leave St Helen's with at least a point, but a 15 point to 3 second half swing downed the battling Bridgend side.

A match with lots of niggle from the off saw a big talking point early on as three Swansea players pinned Shaun O'Rourke on his back, following a conversation with his assistant the referee issued both O'Rourke and Matthew Dodd red cards.

Cai Evans, voted by the Ravens Supporters as their Bridgend man of the match, opened the scoring from the tee. Evans would go on to bag all of Bridgend's points for the afternoon, enjoying fine form from the tee at St Helens.

Just as the twenty minute mark passed, Swansea broke through the resolute Bridgend defence for their opening try. Fullback Rhys Williams sliced through, Josh Thomas converted.

Cai Evans added two further penalties as the half went on to edge Bridgend into a slim two point lead. The Ravens rarely threatened the Swansea line, so the reliable boot of Fullback Cai Evans came to the fore.

The hosts went on to dictate all aspects of the game in the second half, and bagged an early try again from Rhys Williams. Weak tackling out wide from the Ravens saw the fullback grab his second try.

Ten minutes into the second half, Cai Evans added his fourth and final penalty, now playing into a strong wind, Bridgend found their attacking opportunities limited and looked more often to kick to the corner instead of at goal.

Swansea struck back almost immediately with their third try, this time it was Ben Cambriani touching down.

The Ravens defensive efforts throughout the second half kept them in the match, trailing by seven Bridgend had just a couple of chances to strike but Swansea held out. Then with just two minutes remaining, Swansea added three more points through Thomas to take themselves into a ten point lead and leaving the Ravens outside of bonus point range.

It was a defiant performance away from home by Bridgend, who will look to return to winning ways when Ebbw Vale visit the Morganstone Brewery Field next weekend.
