The latest player to join up with Bridgend Ravens ahead of the new season is forward Mathew Donnelly.
Donnelly, 24, featured on permit for the Ravens during the tail end of last season's Principality Premiership campaign. Mathew featured four times, three of those from the start, resulting in three victories.
The signing is further evidence of the club's ongoing commitment to local player development, with Mathew joining up with the Ravens from Bridgend Sports; one of our local partner clubs. Equally comfortable playing in the second row and back row, Donnelly adds to an ever improving forward division and complements the addition of Aled Evans, who was announced as the club's first signing of the summer from Cardiff Met on Friday.
6'5 Mathew started his youth rugby career at Pencoed until the age of 14. A short break from the game followed before Mathew returned to play for the newly formed Bridgend Sports Youth side where he spent the next three seasons. Donnelly combined his studies at Cardiff University with rowing for two years, returning home to play rugby when he could. Three years of senior rugby with Bridgend Sports saw him earn the call to represent his local Principality Premiership side at the end of last season.
After signing for Bridgend, Mathew commented 'I'm really excited to sign for Bridgend Ravens. I enjoyed being amongst it last season and I'm grateful for the opportunity the coaches have given me. I'm hoping to build on my performances from last season and look forward to being part of something special.'
