Team to face Ebbw Vale (H) WRU National Cup

13/02/2018

Bridgend Ravens welcome Ebbw Vale to the Morganstone Brewery Field on Tuesday evening for a re-arranged WRU National Cup last 16 clash (7:30pm).

The sides were due to meet at the end of January, but following horrendous weather, the Morganstone Brewery Field pitch was deemed unplayable and the game postponed. The winners of the tie will progress to face Bargoed at Bargoed Park in a tricky quarter final clash. Ironically, they will meet again on Saturday at the same venue, this time in the Principality Premiership.

Bridgend progressed into this round with an extremely professional performance in testing conditions seeing them through with a 48-0 victory at Glynneath. Ryan Griffiths, making his fiftieth Bridgend appearance that afternoon crossed for two of Bridgend's tries to safely book their place in the last 16. The Ravens have played once since that game in early January, a 13-23 home reverse to Cardiff. Saturday's game at Cross Keys in the Principality Premiership was called off an hour before kick off due to an unplayable surface at Pandy Park.

Ebbw Vale's successful first round came courtesy of a famous victory over reigning champions RGC 1404 at Euguene Cross Park. A 16-14 success was secured with a late penalty from Dragons outside half Dorian Jones. The 2016 Principality Premiership champions previous competition best is a runners up spot in 1998-99 where they lost 19-12 to Llanelli at Ashton Gate. Their last outing saw them overcome Pontypridd at Euguene Cross Park in the Principality Premiership, in a game that'll give them plenty of confidence as they head west for cup action.

There's just one change from the Bridgend side which was due to line up at Pandy Park on Saturday; Ryan Griffiths replaces Aaron Grabham on the wing. Jon Phillips and Garin Lougher are his partners in the back three. Joseph Gatt and Nathan Edwards pair up in the centre with youngsters Jacob Lloyd and Connor Tantum at half back.

The front row comprises Owen Jordan, Gareth Harvey and Cai Lewis. Chris John and Kieran Martin pack down in the second row with Adam and Zac O'Driscoll alongside Matthew John in the back row.
