Carmarthen Quins (A) Preview

Bridgend Ravens travel to Carmarthen Park on Saturday looking for their second win of the season when they face Carmarthen Quins (2:30pm).

Buoyed by a superb 27-18 success, the Ravens head to the Park to face another Scarlets’ side in Carmarthen who have won two out of their opening four games. It’s a tough assignment for Matt Silva’s charges but they head west full of confidence following Saturday’s result.

Quins success early on this season has seen them defeat two Ospreys sides – an impressive victory at Aberavon before a narrow win over Swansea last time out. They’ve tasted defeat against Llanelli and at the Gnoll against Neath and will no doubt be eager to continue their winning streak come the weekend.

The head to head between the sides has been relatively even of late. Bridgend have won two of the last five games, with Carmarthen taking three victories. The last clash between the sides saw Carmarthen win comprehensively by 34-8 – conceding two penalty tries, a try to Lee Williams and a brace from Morgan Griffiths. Gareth Beer’s try was scant consolation and Bridgend know that they’ll need a much improved effort this time out to take the spoils.

The team is largely unchanged from the one that secured a first league win against Llanelli. Try scorer Tyler Morgan keeps his place in an unchanged back three with Dylan Moss and Ed Doe on the wings. Joseph Gatt and Owen Watkin form a strong midfield pairing with Cai Evans and Connor Tantum the half backs.

The only change in the back row sees Adam O'Driscoll come in for the unavailable Matthew John. Zac O'Driscoll captains the side with Owain Lloyd at 6. Kieran Martin and Jack Pope are the pick at second row and Iestyn Merriman lines up alongside Cai Lewis and Rhodri Apsee in the front row.

Amongst the replacements, there's a welcome return to the Bridgend Ravens squad for prop Ollie Evans from a long term injury.
