Bridgend Ravens were left wondering what could have been after another defeat to Pontypridd at the Bridgend Ford Brewery Field on Friday night.
Bridgend started off the brighter of the two sides. A successful penalty by the impressive Dixon gave them a deserved lead. He put wide a kick minutes later, before Flanagan kicked Pontypridd level.
The Ravens know they can score tries if they get ball in hand. This was evident early on, as the home side threatened the Pontypridd line ferociously. Their persistence was rewarded through an excellent score for Wales Under-20’s winger Ashley Evans.
After this, the balance of power shifted and Pontypridd scored a penalty try – which also saw Chris Williams yellow carded. With time running out in the first half, Tom Hetherington squeezed over in the corner to extend the visitors lead. Flanagan impressively added the extras.
Pontypridd were now looking a lot more confident with ball in hand and played a good territorial game. Their good play was rewarded with a Tom Williams try on the stroke of half time.

Bridgend briefly staged an impressive comeback at the start of the second half. After an excellent turnover, Bridgend hacked ahead and Ashley Evans outsprinted two defenders to touch down under the posts. Dixon converted.
The home fans were now driving their team on and as they looked certain to score, James Dixon dropped a goal to bring them within four points. Bridgend now seemed well on top and some superb Pontypridd defence was all that denied them a crucial score.
Pontypridd reversed this briefly, and were awarded for their attacking play with a penalty try. To add salt to the wound, Matt Nuthall scored almost directly from the restart to end any Ravens hopes of victory.
