Bridgend Ravens resume their bid to retain their Principality Premiership status when they travel to Sardis Road to face Pontypridd on Saturday afternoon (2:30pm).
Both sides were in cup action last weekend. Bridgend booked themselves a quarter final with Pontypool when they defeated Newbridge 21pts to 0 and Pontypridd earned themselves a last eight derby with Merthyr when they put Llanelli to the sword 36pts to 25.
Bridgend and Pontypridd are both desperate for the league points for different reasons. Bridgend are looking to maintain their position above the bottom four and push further up the league standings whereas Pontypridd are looking to gain some ground on leaders Merthyr. Bridgend's last league outing saw them gain a valuable losing bonus point in a 10pts to 14 home defeat to Ebbw Vale whereas Pontypridd downed Aberavon infront of the S4C cameras at Sardis Road 43pts to 7.
The game between the sides in September was an absolute thriller. Played on a fast Morganstone Brewery Field, Bridgend raced into a 21-17 half time lead lead before the Valley commandos stormed back to lead 21-30. A Nathan Edwards interception regained Bridgend's advantage before a late score from Jaime Hill and a penalty from Sweeney gave Ponty the 5 points, winning 44pts to 35.
Games between the sides are rarely dull and last season's encounter at Sardis Road was the same. Just like this season's game, Bridgend took control early, leading 31pts to 21 at half time. A see-saw encounter went the way of Pontypridd after two late tries and a penalty from Diggy Bird gave them victory by a single point 35pts to 34. Bridgend took two bonus points away from that game and know they'll need a similar performance to get anything from the House of Pain this weekend.
On Saturday, Tyler Williams keeps his place at full back in a back three alongside Morgan Jones and Ashley Evans. Stuart Floyd Ellis and Nathan Edwards pair up in midfield with Jamie Murphy and Chris Williams the half backs.
In the pack, Dafi Davies, Aled Evans and Jordan Collier comprise the back row with Ben Jones and Jack Pope in the second row. The front row selection is Rhodri Apsee, Gareth Harvey and Cai Lewis.
