Match Preview

Team to face Bargoed (H)

After two games away from home, Bridgend Ravens are back at the Morganstone Brewery Field for one final time this season when they take on Bargoed on Saturday afternoon (2:30pm).

Arguably the Principality Premiership's form team, Bridgend have secured six wins from their last eight games, including four consecutive successes at home. The Brewery has become a bit of a fortress for Silva's men, but they know they have an extremely tough test to round things off when Bargoed come to town on Saturday.
The sides met twice last season in Bargoed's first season in the top flight. On a heavy pitch at Bargoed Park, Bridgend were bullied and came out second best in a 14pts to 6 defeat. The tables were well and truly turned in the Tier 2 matchup, when the Ravens romped to a 26-42 win at Ystrad Mynach.
Bargoed's recent form has been poor, resulting in a nine game losing streak. Performances haven't necessarily reflected results and scoreline aside, they've run Bedwas and Pontypridd very close in recent weeks. They sit bottom of the table, twenty points behind Bridgend, although they do have three games in hand on the Ravens.

Matt Silva largely keeps faith with the squad which downed Cross Keys on Tuesday evening. Jonny Phillips, Aaron Grabham and Mike Powell keep their places, with Stuart Floyd Ellis replacing Joseph Gatt in midfield, partnering Nathan Edwards. Ryan Evans and Chris Williams come in at half back.

The front row is freshened up with Ollie Evans, Gareth Harvey and Cai Lewis selected. Shaun O'Rourke regains his place alongside Chris John in the second row. The back row, so impressive in Tuesday's success, gets the nod once again.

One new face amongst the replacements bench is Bridgend Sports flanker Lloyd Wilson. Another promising young talent to come from the Bandstand club, Lloyd's selection shows Bridgend's continued commitment to local player development. Having impressed from the replacements bench last time out, Bridgend Athletic back Caine Woolerton gets the nod as the outside back replacement.
