Match Preview

Team to face Ebbw Vale (H)

Bridgend Ravens welcome Ebbw Vale to the Morganstone Brewery Field on Saturday afternoon in a Principality Premiership clash (KO 2:30pm).

You don’t have to go back far to when the sides last met. Ebbw Vale stormed the Brewery with a rampant first half display on Tuesday evening. Four first half tries effectively ended the clash as The Steelmen progressed to the quarter finals of the WRU National Cup with a 33-13 victory.

Despite a poor first half showing, there were some crumbs of confidence for Bridgend. Two second half tries and a much improved second half display resulted in tries for Jonny Phillips and Ollie Evans to give some credibility to the score line.

Bridgend will be looking to get their first win of the ‘merged campaign’ – suffering two defeats so far, to RGC and Cardiff.

Ebbw Vale have two wins from their three games, with impressive wins over Pontypridd and Llanelli. Their one defeat came at the home of their regional rivals Newport, in a narrow 18-15 reverse.

Head coach Matt Silva makes a number of changes to the line-up as his squad look to bounce back against the same opponents.

Fresh from scoring his second Bridgend try, Jon Phillips keeps his place in the back three alongside Ryan Griffiths and Joseph Gatt. Nathan Edwards is joined by Jamie Murphy in midfield, with Ryan Evans and Chris Williams selected at half back.

Rhodri Apsee, Gareth Harvey and Cai Lewis are the front row with Chris John and Kieran Martin continuing their flourishing partnership in the second row. Dafi Davies makes his first Bridgend start in the back row alongside Adam O’Driscoll and Matthew John.
