Match Preview

Team to face Swansea (H)

Bridgend Ravens host Swansea on Saturday at the earlier kick off time at 1pm in a huge Principality Premiership West clash.

The Ravens, much improved of late, suffered a comprehensive 31-10 defeat at the hand of Llandovery last time out. This followed more positive results with wins over Aberavon and Neath, and a narrow defeat in North Wales against RGC. Bridgend sit one place and two points above their visitors.

Swansea ran last season’s runners up Aberavon close in their last match, losing out by 13-9. This followed a bonus point win over Neath at St Helen’s. Swansea won the reverse fixture by 22-6, but trail in the recent head to head three wins to two. They have two wins so far this season, along with a 16-16 draw with RGC which saw them play most of the match with 14 men. A late penalty by former Raven Owen Howe stole a share of the spoils with the last kick of the game.

There are a few changes to the Bridgend side due to injuries and regional call ups to the Ospreys Anglo Welsh squad. Tyler Williams and Aaron Grabham continue in the back three where they are joined by Ryan Griffiths. Morgan Jones comes into the midfield to replace Jamie Murphy who is away on international duty with Germany. His partner is Joseph Gatt, with Ryan Evans returning at 10 and Will Baird maintaining his place at 9.

Owen Jordan, Iestyn Merriman and Cai Lewis make up the front row. Having missed last weekend’s defeat at Llandovery through injury, Jack Pope regains his place next to Kieran Martin in the second row. Adam and Zac O’Driscoll are selected in the back row with Ashton Evans.

Nathan Edwards is another who makes his return from injury and takes his place amongst the replacements. He’ll be hoping to come on in what would be his 100th appearance for the club.
