Bridgend Ravens look to bounce back from three straight Principality Premiership defeats when Llanelli visit the Morganstone Brewery Field on Saturday (2:30pm).
Bridgend have suffered defeats to Aberavon, Llandovery and Swansea in the opening weeks of this campaign, but welcome Llanelli looking to register their first win of the season.
Llanelli have won win to their name, an opening day success over Carmarthen Quins, but have since suffered defeats to RGC and Llandovery last time out.
The corresponding fixture last season saw Llanelli sneak a one point victory by 13-14. A late Ryan Griffiths try gave the home side hope but they were just edged out by the West Walians.
The Ravens secured a hugely impressive 21-28 victory over the Scarlets when the sides last met at Parc y Scarlets. Having trailed at half time, Bridgend went on to pick up a bonus point victory, their first ever win at the ground with tries from Iestyn Merriman, Chris Williams, Ashton Evans and a match winning score from Garin Lougher, with the rest of the points from the boot of Joseph Scrivens. Bridgend will be looking for a repeat result when the West Walians come calling on Saturday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, Head Coach Matt Silva commented ‘We need a big performance this week, Swansea game was thrown away with 10 mins to go through ill discipline and lapses in our defensive structure.
This season will see us having more interaction with the Ospreys Academy and Senior squad. We've already seen 18 year old Cai Evans and Dylan Moss making their debuts, with 17 year old Harri Morgan hoping to make his debut off the bench this Saturday. We’re delighted to have Owen Watkin with the squad for some much needed game time after a long lay-off.’
There are a few changes to the team which lost out at St Helen’s last weekend. Tyler Williams and Ed Doe continue in the back three where they are joined by Dylan Moss who makes his first start for the club. Joseph Gatt is partnered by Owen Watkin in midfield, with Cai Evans and Connor Tantum the half backs.
Rhodri Apsee, Iestyn Merriman and Cai Lewis are selected in the front row. Jack Pope and Kieran Martin are paired together for the third consecutive game in the boiler house with Zac O’Driscoll, Owain Lloyd and Matthew John in the back row.
