Bridgend Ravens travel to the Talbot Athletic Ground this Saturday to face Aberavon in an Ospreylian derby (kick off 2:30pm).
The Ravens have struggled of late, and have endured a difficult second season in the Premiership. They sit second from bottom, with just seven wins in the league. Aberavon have soared from the depths of the table to mount a charge for a late mid table finish. Last time out, the Ravens lost to Cross Keys at the Riverside Hardware Brewery Field. The home side crossed three times (Murphy, Waite & O’Rourke) but came up short against their visitors from Gwent, losing 30-38. Aberavon hammered Swansea at home, and faced a trip to Llandovery on Tuesday evening prior to hosting the Ravens.
The last two encounters between the sides could not have been more even. In November, Bridgend recorded an impressive 14-9 win over the Wizards at the Riverside Hardware Brewery Field. Adam Hillier Rees bundled over for a well worked try, with the rest of the points coming from Jamie Murphy. The November before saw the sides play out a 13-13 draw at the same ground, with Aberavon missing a late chance to steal victory. Aside from those two clashes, Aberavon have won the rest of the last 5 (2011: 33-12, 2009: 41-12 & 2009: 16-19).
Overall, the sides have met 35 times. Bridgend have emerged victorious nineteen times, with Aberavon winning fourteen. There have been two drawn games. In these games, Bridgend have scored 732 points to Aberavon’s 669.
